Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool and Egypt starlet that began his career with a middling club in the Egyptian Premier League believes his path is one that can be repeated with the right determination.
“Mentality [is the only difference between some players from our region and others]. That’s it. There’s no difference in talent. Our players have exceptional talent,” Salah declared in an interview with Egypt’s On TV.
“I myself wasn’t even the most talented player among my peers… 14, 15, 16 years old.
“I don’t like to say it, but it’s the truth. Our region has elite talent, but not everyone has the mentality,” he added.
“The path isn’t always clear and there are many ways to get there. But the key is to believe in yourself no matter what anyone says and never give up. Don’t worry so much about how you’ll get there, just that somehow you’ll get there.
“Any weakness in your game can be improved. Anything physical even. It’s up to you. It’s a mentality.”
Salah’s path from Egypt’s Arab Contractors has seen him break England’s Premier League record for goals in a season, and has Liverpool on the cusp of UEFA Champions League glory.
Salah also helped Egypt overcome a 28-year World Cup hex, with the Pharaohs set to take part in next month’s finals in Russia.
