Ekramy, Hafez back as Egypt name preliminary squad for Kuwait friendly

Egypt squad

Maligned Al Ahly goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy has been recalled to the Egypt national team, as manager Héctor Cúper lists 29 players for the Pharaohs’ friendly against Kuwait.

The squad also sees the return of RC Lens leftback Karim Hafez, who endured an extended absence due to injury.

Also making a surprise return is Orlando City centerback Amro Tarek.

Tarek’s journeyman career has taken him through Egypt, Germany, and Spain before landing with the MLS Club.

Cúper is also turning to a largely untested name to help the team’s dearth of strikers, in the form of 29-year-old El Masry forward Ahmed Gomaa.

Egypt will face Kuwait in an away friendly on May 26 as part of their preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals in Russia.
