Egyptian Football Association (EFA) president Hani Abo Rida has confirmed that Argentine manager Héctor Cúper will manage the Pharaohs at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
“He’s the man for the job,” Abo Rida said in a TV interview.
“He’s achieved all the targets in his contract. He went to the Africa Cup of Nations final and took us to the World Cup. How can I get rid of him?”
Pharaohs XI has also learned that the team is planning ‘a minimum of six to eight friendly matches’ before the finals next June.
Cúper will meet with Abo Rida and members of the EFA this week to begin ironing out the details of Egypt’s World Cup preparations.
Egypt finally ended its World Cup jinx on Sunday, beating Congo 2-1 to book its first appearance in football’s showpiece event since 1990.
