Egypt manager Héctor Cúper has added 10 locally-based players to his list foreign-based 15, rounding out the Pharaohs’ full squad to face Congo in World Cup qualifying.
The list of locals is exclusively comprises players from Cairo giants Ahly and Zamalek, and includes the return of centerback Ali Gabr, who missed Egypt’s September double against Uganda because of injury.
Egypt will face Congo on Oct. 8 and could book their first World Cup finals appearance since 1990 with a win and some help.
Three points for Egypt plus a Ghana win or draw against Uganda the day before would be enough for the North Africans to qualify for next year’s finals in Russia.
If Uganda wins at home, then even a victory won’t be enough for Egypt to qualify before the final matchday in November.
