Former Micho Assistant Expected to Become Interim Uganda Coach

Uganda assistant coach Moses Basema is expected to take over the vacant head coaching post temporarily, Pharaohs XI has learned.

The job became available when Serbian Milutin Sredojević – better known as Micho – stepped down last week due to unpaid wages. The move didn’t become official until Saturday.

Basema, considered one of the more respected managers in the country, is expected to be assisted by Cranes goalkeeper coach Fred Kajoba.

Uganda’s coaching search is of significance to Egypt, who play Uganda in two crunch World Cup qualifiers on Aug. 31 and Sept. 5.

Uganda is just two points adrift of the Pharaohs and any slip-up would also open the door for West African giants Ghana to climb back into contention.

Pharaohs XI can confirm that the search for Micho’s long-term replacement includes foreign coaches both inside and outside of Uganda in addition to Ugandans.

Uganda’s football association is expected to convene a press conference on Monday with further details.
