Ugandan footballer Geofrey Massa is in stable condition after being shot by police in Kampala.
According to local media, Massa reportedly hit a police motorcycle before speeding off, prompting a response from police.
A female passenger who was with the former Egypt-based striker at the the time of the incident was said to have died at the scene.
Massa, who skippered the Cranes during their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations campaign, is recovering at Gwatiro Clinic in Bweyogerere.
The 31-year-old announced his retirement from international football shortly after the tournament.
Uganda are Egypt’s next two opponents in 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying, with matches set for August 31 and September 5.
